New insights on the formation and dynamics of membraneless organelles using C-Trap™

Congratulations to Dr. Priya R. Banerjee and his research group at University at Buffalo, who just published their paper in Biomolecules!

In the paper titled “Molecular crowding tunes material states of ribonucleoprotein condensates” they investigated how entropic forces contribute to the formation and dynamics of membraneless organelles. Using their C-Trap optical tweezers – fluorescence microscope they performed quantitative droplet fusion experiments to gain insights into the physical properties of ribonucleoprotein condensates and found out that molecular crowding can alter their physical state.

After installing the C-Trap in July 2018, the group was able to generate the results needed for their paper and publish it the following February. Watch the video to see Dr. Banerjee explain his research and the journey to his publication!
